Sunday catch-up: A complicated life (David’s story)
The story of David has much more to it than a giant-killing. David lived and died in a culture and context that is far removed from our own, yet what we encounter in his story is life and faith in all its complexity.
David’s life is nothing, if not complicated. Plucked out of obscurity, underappreciated at home, then applauded by the masses. Relationships strain and break; power is gained, lost, and misused; worship is sincere, sometimes hollow; progress is not linear; failure is not final. When we pay attention to David’s life, we find God at work in the complications and mess. When we are attentive to God in our lives, we find the very same.
