What are Community Groups?

Community Groups meet online every Tuesday evening (via Zoom).  Community Groups are for everyone and offer a great opportunity to meet, learn, and pray with others.  We spend most of the time each week in breakout rooms, where there is plenty of space to talk things through and raise questions.  The aim is to build relationships with one another and to help one another to know God better.

It doesn’t matter if you haven’t joined before or can’t manage every week, it would be brilliant to have you along!

The Zoom details and link are in the weekly newsletter.

Fiona’s story: My first taste of Community Groups

Like many people, once lockdown finished I was finding it difficult to start social interaction again.  I had become very insular, very home-based, and even the safety of Zoom meetings was a chore.  I just wanted to stay on the sofa with a good book or some nice music.

After some gentle encouragement from Tim, I was persuaded to join the weekly Community Groups meeting.  I didn’t want to, I wasn’t looking forward to it, but I forced myself.  And, do you know, I really enjoyed it!

The evening began with stills from a few films and we had to guess the connection between them. Then there was a very short recap of the previous Sunday’s Bible passage after which a question was posed (not a Bible-based one, more a sharing/getting to know one another) which we discussed in smaller breakout rooms.

Back to the main group where we read together another passage from the Bible.  Tim asked a series of questions which we then discussed in the same breakout room we had been in before.  A quick revisit back to the main group, followed by a return to our breakout room for a time of prayer, or discussion, or just to talk about something troubling us.

I enjoyed my time with other people in the church, and the only downside is that it all went too quickly! It is all very non-threatening; you don’t have to join with video or microphone if you don’t want to. There is no compulsion to speak. If you’ve never been to Community Groups, if you used to come to Reflect and miss it, if you used to come to Community groups but have got out of the habit, then please do come along.  I can thoroughly recommend it.  I shall certainly be making it a regular part of my week.  Yes, I’ll probably still have to force myself away from the sofa, but I know I will be enriched for making the effort.

The link to Zoom is posted with the weekly newsletter. Hope to see you there.
